Apalachee Farms LLC was formed in 2017 for the purpose of farming a 25-acre property in eastern Leon County, FL. We are a small family-run business with strong convictions in environmentalism and ecological conservation. The farm is largely dedicated to annual vegetable production, recently with the goal of expanding the diversity of produce available on the market being one of our top priorities. We use organic methods on the farm and are in the process of becoming USDA certified organic. Practices
On our farm we use many organic methods, our primary inputs being composted wood chips and nitrogen-fixing cover crops. We frequently use organic pest management, including passive methods like trap cropping (using sunflowers to draw away parasitic insects) and products like Surround (a kaolin clay based repellent) that may leave a white coating on your produce, but is edible and non-toxic. We also have recently made the decision to transition away from plastic packaging and hope to offer all of our products free of non-biodegradable plastic in the near future.
