Earthshine Acres Farm is a veteran owned farm that was started to provide an alternative to conventionally farmed food for our community while helping to conserve heritage breed livestock. Heritage livestock breeds are the traditional, historic breeds of animals that roamed pastures before industrialized farming became mainstream. These animals are an important part of our history that is in danger of being gone forever. We are lifelong animal lovers dedicated to the health, happiness, and conservation of the heritage breed animals we raise. Our vision is of an improved, non-GMO, chemical-free, food system, in which the animals that provide food for us live happy lives and are treated with respect. We raise Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs, classified as "threatened" on The Livestock Conservancy's priority list, and Ossabaw Island Hogs, listed as "critical." We also raise several breeds of heritage chickens which provide eggs and meat.
Our animals are raised in the woods and in open pastures, and are supplemented with NON-GMO grain as needed. No antibiotics or growth hormones are used. We enjoy watching our hogs play in the woods, and root and wallow as they are meant to. Our chickens live happy lives foraging through the weeds for insects and vegetation. No chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides are used on our veggies. Veteran owned and operated.
